Housing Justice Conference: Bradford Wednesday, 12 June 2013

Housing Justice is the national voice of Christian action on homelessness and housing need. This year marks the 10th anniversary of our launch in 2003, when the Catholic Housing Aid Society merged with the Churches National Housing Coalition, between them with more than 70 years of action and advocacy on housing need.

Our vision is of a society where everyone has a home suitable to their needs.

Why "Mobilising the church?"

Churches all over the country are already responding to homelessness and housing need in their communities, from running night shelters to signposting people to local sources of advice and assistance. Some are getting into the business of using their assets to develop affordable housing, and others are working in partnership with others to develop other support services.

I'm the newly appointed Coordinator for ACAT, the charity for Church Treasurers.  My role is to help Churches become more aware of our work, particularly in networks we haven't yet spoken to.  ACAT is a registered charity that promotes Church stability by providing advice, guidance, information and training to Church Treasurers.   Annual membership of ACAT including a helpline and a regularly updated Treasurer's Handbook is £12.50 a year.  I'm attaching a very basic introductory leaflet.  If you need any further information please call or email.

Gift Aid Changes

HMRC's new system for claiming Gift Aid launched on Monday.

Charities Online - HMRC's new system for claiming Gift Aid - launched on Monday. It replaces the paper form that members currently use to claim tax repayments.
The transition period for implementing the changes will end on 30 September this year. This is a tight timescale so it's important that you take steps now to ensure you have everything in place. If you don't, your claims may end up being delayed or even reduced in value.

NCVO has produced a guide explaining everything you'll need to do which covers...
  • Why the changes are important
  • What the changes are
  • How you can plan for them
  • The three ways you can claim Gift Aid
  • Details of the new Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme
