What can we do about Poverty in Lancashire?

Church Action on Poverty and Together Lancashire invite you to an evening to explore the causes and issues... and campaigning responses

with Liam Purcell...Communications Manager – Church Action on Poverty

at Fulwood Methodist Church....

Garstang Road/Watling Street Road. Preston PR2 8EA

on Tuesday October 8th

7 for coffee and nibbles – 7.30pm meeting begins

Exploring issues including

  • The Impact of Welfare Reform

  • Wonga and the other legal loan sharks

  • Benefits Sanctions and destitution

  • A Living Wage

  • Zero hours contracts

  • Fair Taxes

This is an event aimed at anyone living in Lancashire (including Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen) who is concerned about local poverty. We are specifically inviting anyone who is either an existing or potential supporter of Church Action on Poverty and everyone in our Together Lancashire networks. We are hoping this may lead to the formation of a Church Action on Poverty local action group.

The event is free... but we will be asking for donations (suggested £2 - £5 depending on your available resources to cover expenses, light refreshments and the cost of booking the room)...

To ensure your place book you free ticket on EventBrite. https://povertyinlancashire.eventbrite.co.uk/

Dear all

Please excuse the impersonal email.

Incredibly, going on pre-bookings, there are still places available at
'Campolo & Curry' on Saturday week, September 7 with Dr Tony Campolo and
Andy Flannagan. (7pm at The Eastern Pearl, 250 Plymouth Grove)

Words from one of the foremost Christian thinkers and activists of our
generation. Music from a gifted singer/songwriter also deeply involved in
Christian activism. Micah Purnell's acclaimed 'Afflenza' exhibition. And a
3-course meal, including soft drinks and tea/coffee. For £17.50.* And 1 free
with 5 for pre-booked tickets. A unique event for a bargain price.

We are hearing of quite a few individuals and groups who plan to just turn
up on the night. If you know of anyone intending to do this, please get
back to me with approximate numbers, as we need to give the venue a final
total a fews days before. Any we are not aware of who just turn up MAY NOT
GET IN as the venue are only able to cater for a limited number over the
total we give them.

*Even at £17.50 we recognise some, especially in urban churches, may have
difficulty affording a ticket. We have a limited number of subsidised
tickets for people from local churches, or who are in ministry (e.g. Street
Pastor, Eden team, Boaz volunteer), which must be pre-booked. If you know
someone who could use one, please contact me for further details (07905
509677).

yours

Paul Keeble
