Although not an explicitly Christian methodology, the core values and methods of asset-based community development resonate deeply with Christian theology and practice.
Al Barrett, a church leader working in Birmingham who led a workshop on ABCD at the Tackling Poverty Together conference, has written a short paper for us exploring those resonances and the ways in which this approach can be a vital, life-giving tool for local churches as they join in the mission of God in their local contexts engaging and supporting their communities, tackling poverty and injustice, and helping to grow resilient and inclusive neighbourhoods where all are able to participate and flourish.
This follows CUF's paper which introduces the concept of asset-based community developement. Both papers can be found on our website.
Because of the interest in asset-based community development, we are considering running a training day on it next year. Do get in touch with Bethany Eckley if you think this would be a good idea or want to know more.
