Community Futures can now host high quality meeting facilities for voluntary sector organisations where people can exchange great ideas and information.    In 2 individual meeting rooms, Captain Steve Gaunt Room & Mrs Doris Abraham MBE Room, Community Futures can accommodate your meeting, at very affordable rates, Monday to Friday 9am – 4.30pm:

Captain Steve Gaunt Room a prestigious Victorian period Board Room, with abundant natural daylight which provides a perfect setting for meetings, interviews, training sessions and consultancy sessions etc.  The room is fully furnished to an extremely high standard and can hold up to a maximum 10 people.

Tariff: Full day £80, Half day £40, hourly rate £15

Mrs Doris Abraham MBE Room a smaller more secluded room which can accommodate up to 4 people.  This room is ideal for one-to-one appraisal or small informal meetings etc.

Tariff: Full day £40, Half day £20, hourly rate £10

 Heritage Grants over £2 Million and under £5 Million - deadline 20 June 2014 
Under the Heritage Grants scheme funding is available for projects that relate to the national, regional or local heritage of the UK. Activities that can be funded include: historic buildings; archaeological sites; collections of objects, books or documents in museums, libraries or archives; natural and designed landscapes and gardens; people's memories and experiences (often recorded as 'oral history'); etc.

HLF welcome applications from single not for profit organisations and partnerships led by the not for profit sector. In addition, the HLF also makes grants of £100,000 - £2 million; and Grants in excess of £5 million.

Macmillan Cancer Support - Grants for Groups - 28 June 2014 

The grants programme aims to fund groups that support people affected by cancer or campaign to improve cancer care. The grant can be used towards start-up costs or for existing groups to expand and extend their reach. Applications will be accepted from people affected by cancer in groups or individually; voluntary organisations, community interest companies, community groups, social enterprises; and health and social care staff, information and support staff in partnership with people affected by cancer.

Money Saving Expert (MSE) Charity                                                                           

Grants of up to £5,000 are available for self-help groups and other innovative projects that will help educate people about money/debt/consumer issues. Projects must assist people to improve their quality of life through knowledge and understanding of how to manage and take control of their own financial situation. Projects must also provide outcomes that will benefit their wider communities. Not-for-profit constituted groups/organisations within the UK that have an annual income of less than £500,000 and whose unrestricted reserves are less than six months of their running costs are eligible to apply.  Applications are being accepted from 1 May until 31 May 2014. Only the first 40 complete applications that meet the criteria will be considered by the Panel. Further information is available from the MSE Charity website.

 

Wingate Foundation - Jewish Life and Learning Grant - deadline 23 June 2014

Through this grants programme, the Foundation aims to encourage Jewish cultural, academic and educational life in a manner that enhances the Jewish contribution to the life of the wider community. In particular, applications are invited from academic institutions specialising in Jewish subjects and from bodies promoting Jewish culture, including museums, libraries and literary publications. Applications are also welcomed from organisations able to demonstrate a record in inter-faith dialogue, in the promotion of reconciliation between Jews in Israel and their Arab neighbours and the encouragement of liberal values in both communities.

£700,000 loan fund to help rural communities in Lancashire

Volunteers in Lancashire are being encouraged to apply to a £700,000 Defra loan fund to improve rural community buildings – or even build new ones.

The Rural Community Buildings Loan Fund plays a crucial role in helping community groups renovate and refurbish buildings such as village halls, church halls and community centres.

It encourages communities to raise funds, knowing a loan could be available to help them meet their target and win funding from other sources.

The Fund is managed by ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England), the national voice for England's network of 38 rural community councils, on behalf of Defra. 

Community Futures, a member of the ACRE Network, provides a dedicated advice service for the volunteers who run village halls and similar community buildings.

Finlay Hodge, Development Officer at Community Futures said: "The fund is a real boon for communities because it allows work to be done immediately, bringing instant benefits.

"The loan process is simple and we can use our in-depth knowledge of managing community buildings to help guide and support applicants.

"Village halls are the heart of rural communities but the majority of the 10,000 across England were built before 1970 and some are in need of a facelift or major renovation.

"We know how hard it is for communities to raise funds for projects and the availability of a flexible loan can make all the difference."

The average loan taken out by village hall committees is around £15,000 – but larger loans are considered. Around 40 loans are live at any one time and ACRE makes around 10 to 14 new loans every year. The interest charged on the loan is returned to the Government, but capital is put back into the fund to support other community buildings.

ACRE's Rural Community Buildings Officer Deborah Clarke said: "We are delighted to have been awarded the contract by Defra to manage the loan fund for another three years.

"We have helped hundreds of communities who tell us that without the fund, the refurbishment of their village hall would never have happened. We're also keen to hear from groups who want construct a new building, through the Community Right to Build Powers or buy an existing building for community use, through the Community Right to Bid powers."

Defra said: "The Rural Community Buildings Loan Fund plays an important role in supporting vital community buildings that sit at the heart of rural life. We would encourage communities to use the fund not only for the maintenance and improvement of current community buildings but also to help communities bring buildings into community use and ownership where there is a local need."

British Red Cross First Aid Courses for Vulnerable People and their Carers

The British Red Cross run first aid courses for vulnerable people and their carers, sometimes they can be free or for a donation depending on your circumstances.

The 2 hour courses are designed to suit your needs and that of your service users.  This is a new project aimed at teaching everyday first aid in an easy to understand and retain format.  This fun and interactive way of learning is adaptable and is split into modules and these modules can be learnt in any order in groups of 5 or 6 modules in any 2 hour course.

Two healthcare planners will host a two-hour workshop at 11am on Monday 2nd June to explore your experiences of being a patient in single bedrooms on wards and mental health units.

They'll be exploring with you different aspects of the space including the environment and mood, privacy and dignity, personal space, colour, artwork and furniture and fittings. Your experiences and creative thinking can make a real difference to the way mental health wards are designed so come along and tell them what you think!

Festival for the Chorley Circular Walk – 24th May 2014
Chorley Ramblers in conjunction with Lancashire County Council and Chorley Borough Council are running a Festival for the Chorley Circular Walk on 24th May 2014.  Part of the arrangements are to have a 'stall' at each of 3 locations, on the route of the walk:  Yarrow Valley Park;  Birkace; Duxbury Park and Astley Park.  We have 2 display stands but require a 3rd.  Ideally these should be of the 'tall' type c. 5-6 feet high, free standing, 'concertinard' 3 or 4 sections.  We need to put the display on them so need them ideally as soon as possible.  Many thanks if you can help. Oh! by the way if you can make it to the festival we will glad to see you.  A 12 mile walk leaves Duxbury Park at 10.00am.   Official Opening 11.00am at Yarrow Valley Information Centre, Birkacre and 4 walks of c. 4 miles from there at these times 11.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm and 2.15pm.  There will also be a children's Treasure Hunt at 1.15pm.  Activities include climbing wall, dog tricks display, musical band, bouncy castle, etc.

 This is a networking working lunch, part of a series of Participatory Action Research Workshops that make up a PhD thesis on the effects of austerity on VCS organisations. As women make up a significant majority of the Adult Social Care and Voluntary Sector workforce, it was felt that a participatory research event focussed specifically on women would be relevant. The event welcomes a feminist guest speaker, Dr Gemma Yarwood to open discussions on the role of women and work. Dr Gemma Yarwood's principal research interests centre around gender, work and family. 

The event will be a working lunch, asking women who work in the Adult Social Care Voluntary Sector about their experiences of work and examining what questions need to be asked in terms of improving women's experience of work in the sector. 

Findings from the research event will be shared through the Manchester Community Central Blog with a view to improving VCS Strategic responses to austerity. 

The working lunch is aimed at women who work within the adult social care voluntary sector. The aim of the event is to network and to develop a feminist research agenda which can be used to re-focus VCS organisational strategy in order that the sector can better respond to Austerity.

Healthy Living Festival

On Friday 23rd May between 10am and 2pm, members of the public are invited to drop into a free Healthy Living Festival at Accrington Town Hall to access free expert advice and practical help, and learn more about healthy eating and getting into healthy activities.  From help stopping smoking to diabetes advice, and homemade soup to Zumba classes, there's something for everyone.  Over 20 local groups have so far confirmed, with stalls, live demonstrations, free refreshments and draws throughout the day.

This is the second Healthy Living event to be delivered in partnership with Peel House Medical Practice and the practice's Patient Participation Group (PPG), which was last year attended by over 200 people.

Jean Battle chairperson of the PPG said: "we hope to build on the success of last year's event and welcome even more people this time round"

 

Halton Festival 9th August 2014

Live music, family fun and great food and drink combine once again at this year's Halton Festival.    Now in its second year, the event attracted over 1,000 people in 2013, and organisers are inviting everyone back for another summer celebration on Saturday August 9th.

The playing fields at the Centre will be the setting for the free daytime event, featuring up to 20 stalls, kids activities, international food, hand crafted local ale and plenty more besides.     The festival also hosts the annual skate competition on one of the best skate parks in the north west.   BMX, scooter or skateboard – a £5 entry fee gets you in the running to compete for some great prizes.

The outdoor stage will play host to bands and singers from the Lancaster area, including sets from Killer Bunny, Stripped Back, Charlie Galloway, Blackheart Afterglow, Schooltrip and The Intensely Staring Cats.

In the evening, the fun moves inside The Centre with music from Morecambe indie rockers Joe McCorriston and the Blockbuster Blues, York genre hoppers Grinny Grandad, and Manchester's award winning reggae/rock/ska four piece Jeremiah Ferrari. Entry to the evening show, from 8pm, is £10.

"We very much welcome volunteers who can help set up and break down the festival and help out on the day, so if you can spare a few hours we'd love to hear from you.

Reading The World Writers perform On A Glass Bridge To The Red Sea Flats

The evening represents the collective efforts of Reading the World (RTW) participants and lead facilitator, student co-facilitators and a student movement practitioner.

IT Project Coordinator – Full Time 37 hours

Salary up to £30,000 per annum

This post is focused on providing a highly efficient Project Coordination Service to our business customers for all IT projects. Managing the end to end lifecycle of IT projects from initiation through to implementation and closure. Maintaining documentation in line with the CGA Project Framework and highlighting projects exceeding agreed tolerances to the Head of IT.

You will ensure the IT Service Desk is prepared to take on support of new solutions, through ITIL Service Transition, and manage Changes and Requests as required by the Service Desk within the timescales specified in the Service Level Agreement.

In addition, you will have a working knowledge in supporting MS Office, Outlook, Windows, Active Directory and Remote Access.

Successful candidates will ideally have 12 months experience of managing multiple projects at one time using a recognised Project Management Methodology (ideally Prince2), with strong written and verbal communication skills, well organised and the ability to work to deadlines. You will also have an aptitude to work under pressure to achieve the company's KPIs and objectives.

IT Helpdesk Support Officer – Full Time 37 hours

Salary up to £26,000 per annum

This post is focused on providing a high quality Helpdesk Service to our business customers for all IT related matters. Operating the Service Desk within agreed service levels and business priorities, providing first line technical support to resolve issues when possible at first point of contact, and then following agreed process to escalate to other teams where appropriate. Carrying out business customer requests to agreed service levels.

You will have experience of providing excellent customer service and experience of operating an ITIL based Service Desk managing Incident, Request and Asset processes.

In addition, you will have knowledge in supporting MS Office, Outlook, Windows, Active Directory and Remote Access.

Successful candidates will ideally have 12 months experience of working on an ITIL based Service Desk with strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent Customer Service skills. You will also have an aptitude to work under pressure to achieve the company's KPIs and objectives.

Bespoke Hand Crafted Office/Reception/Shop Counter/Salon COUNTER in solid wood. 

Has 3 tall sides with room to seat 2 members of staff behind with PCs and/or tills and has storage room below the counter and also has a counter underneath to either have items for sale or to place PCs, telephones, admin work, etc. on it.  It also has a 3 sided large ledge and counter top for meeting and greeting and/or serving customers. Measures 3ft, 6" height by 24 inch wide counter top, Counter Tops measure 34" by 36" by 52".  Under counter shelves measure 44" by 18" x 24".  Shelf inserts for storage measure 21" wide x 18" height x 2, 11"w x 18"h, 17"w x 18"h and 34" w x 18"h. 

It is great for storing everything away and keeping things tidy underneath in the shelving areas.  The Counter belonged to Blackpool Radio Wave who donated to our charity and they paid £1750.00 to have it tailor-made.  It has served us well and is the one item the charity will sadly miss.  We would like genuine offers around £275 which is a bargain for such a high quality item.
