FROM ACts 435 : Launch of "Little Acts go a Long Way" campaign

Subject: Launch of "Little Acts go a Long Way" campaign

We are pleased to announce today the launch of our social media campaign "Little Acts go a Long Way".  This will primarily be run through Facebook where we hope to encourage lively, productive conversation on this topic over the next couple of months.  We plan to feature some guest blogs and also invite everyone to share their personal experiences of how little acts have gone a long way.  We will utilise Twitter to feed into the campaign, inviting people to use the #littleacts hashtag as their reference.

We want to thank a donor who completed our survey a few months ago for the suggestion that has formed the basis for this campaign (since survey responses were anonymous we can only thank him or her generally in this way).

The campaign is being run from our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/acts435 and we are on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/acts435

Now for those for whom social media is a mystery or completely unappealing: before your eyes glaze over, please think whether there might be someone you know who is active on social media and might like to engage with our campaign and help spread the word – your children, friends, cousins, neighbours, colleagues, etc.

Whilst we hope to generate more donors to Acts 435 as part of this campaign, our primary aim is to improve our social media presence and contribute useful, interesting, relevant, fun content which adds value on this subject of how little acts go a long way.  If we appreciated what a difference they can make, perhaps many more people would do many more little acts to make the world a better place.

We are very grateful for any input you can provide (comments, links to relevant information, photos, etc. and sharing the page with your friends) and will update you on how our campaign unfolds in due course.

With very best wishes

Jenny Herrera

Fw: On God's Side: Livestream with Jim Wallis examining "the Common Good" - 3 September

Join New York Times best-selling author Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners, on 3 September as he encourages us on how we might reclaim the ancient and compelling vision of the common good.

Watch live video from this special event where Jim will explore
"The Common Good" - a vision not just of looking after ourselves and our nearest and dearest, but of really understanding that we are our neighbours' keeper.

The foundation is Jesus' call to love our neighbour as ourselves. What does it mean not just to care about our own family's interests, but to care about other people's interests as much as our own. That's the common good. That's the standard. Seeking the common good isn't always easy, and sometimes it's not even clear how to practically live it out - but we need to have that discussion, that debate, that civil discourse about what the common good really might be. No matter what our politics; Left, Right, Centre or something else - what's right and what works is more and important than what's Left and what's Right.

One Blackpool mailing header image

Over the past week in the One Blackpool office we've been hard at working sending out membership packs to the fantastic and varied range of organisations who have signed up to join the cooperative. We've seen organisations from the small start up right through to the large and established queing up to take advantage of our range of member benefits. If you've not yet signed your organisation up to join don't forget that you still have until the 30th September to take advantage of our fantastic introductory offer, giving you 50% off your first years membership fees.

Our team have also been putting preparations in place for a visit from the government's Social Value Ambassador, Chris White MP, who will be coming to Blackpool in September to join representatives from the sector for a special round table discussion. Over the coming weeks we'll be sending out invitations with details of how your organisation can join this valuable opportunity to put your views and questions to him and to showcase the work that you do.

The One Support Fund is also still open for applications from One Blackpool members with up to £500 per organisation available to access support from the One Blackpool Bid Writing Service, Volunteer Academy or to gain STAR Standard accreditation with UR Potential. The funding available is limited and applications will be processed on a first come first served basis so apply today to ensure your organisation doesn't miss out.

Best Wishes
The One Blackpool Team

Fw: Interview request for national radio show - tonight!

Anyone interested in airing your views....?

Subject: Interview request for national radio show - tonight!

Dear Together Lancashire,

We're talking about the economies of seaside towns on the Mark Forrest Show tonight – kicked off by the report for the Centre for Social Justice suggesting Blackpool is one of a series of seaside towns in a cycle of poverty.

We're holding a phone-in this evening asking "is living by the sea all it's cracked up to be?"

I'd like to talk to someone about what it's really like living in Blackpool – if the rather grim media picture is something you recognise as residents.

Would someone from the blog be interested in taking part?

It would involve a 5-minute one-on-one live phone chat with our presenter Mark at 7.15 this evening – or a pre-record between 16.45 and 18.00.

The Mark Forrest Show goes out on 39 BBC Local Radio stations across England and the Channel Islands every evening.

Kind Regards,

Liv Walker

Make lunch for kids during the school holidays

Free school meals make a huge difference to almost 2 million children in the UK but when schools are closed so are the kitchens ...at Lunch we encourage church and community groups to help us bridge the holiday hunger gap.

Make Lunch is a franchise type scheme which churches can buy into.
Through the Cinnamon Network there are likely in the near future to be grants for the start up funding for this scheme..
