Blackpool Council Budget Briefing Sessions - This week

As you will recall from our previous newsletters Blackpool Council has started a consultation process with the sector relating to its budget. This is following reductions in its finances of some £36 million over the period 2014/15 to 2015/16 by central government.

The Council has asked CVS and One Blackpool to hold a series of consultation events with the sector in relation to the impact of this budget reduction. Three briefing sessions have been established on as follows:

  • January 20th at the Community Learning, Centre Grange Park 1.30 – 4.00pm
  • January 21st in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, 1.30 -4.00 pm
  • January 22nd at the Solaris Centre, South Shore, 1.30 4.00 pm

During these sessions Council officers will describe the budget setting process and the likely impact of the funding reductions from central government. It is expected that this will highlight a number of areas where the Council will reduce its service delivery. However, it is also expected to describe areas where further work with the sector might be expected in order to ameliorate the impact of service changes.

A further consultation process is also being established regarding a proposal to reduce the current Grant/SLA budget in place in the Council by some 50 per cent in 2014 -15 and to remove it completely by 2015/16 moving to a commissioned basis for all work with the sector.
