The "Pursuing Transformation" Tour - starts 9th July 2014

The first in our series of "tour" events is on Wednesday July, 9th at Life Church, Wirral.

Why not join us as, together, we explore a fresher and deeper understanding of personal, church and community transformation. We want to support and equip you in your calling to see individuals thrive and communities flourish.

Our key-note speakers include David Westlake and Darrell Tunningley.

David is Tearfund's Integral Mission Director. He directs  Soul Action, is a member of the Hope leadership team,    a trustee of Soul Survivor, and co-chair of the Cinnamon  Network.

Darrell is a former drug dealer, addict and convicted  armed robber. God broke dramatically into his life and  Darrell is now at the forefront of community mission. He  is also part of the senior leadership of Hope Corner  Community Church.

During the afternoon we will be looking at how we can be a transformational presence: personally, through our churches and in the nation.

Meet Morgan - Oxfordshire's Inspiring Entrepreneur!

Tearfund's partner "Innovista" is working with young people in Barton, a deprived estate on the edge of Oxford. Here they tell us about Morgan, one of the young people there who has had his life transformed, and has now been recognised as Oxfordshire's Inspiring Entrepreneur...

When we first met Morgan, 15, he was obsessed with video games. He would play them for up to 12 hours straight. using school as a place to catch up on sleep! Jem, Thrive's Team Leader, began meeting with Morgan every week and to help him become more sociable. Morgan's next goal was to start his own business. But growing up in Barton, where many face unemployment, Morgan didn't feel like his ideas matched up to reality. 'No one in my family has a job. About half of the adults I know are unemployed.'

Jem challenged Morgan to think of business ideas that he could start. So Morgan came up with an idea to develop pop-up
restaurants. He's catered for three events so far.

And he's not keeping the money for himself!

Instead, Morgan wants to build two houses for families living in poverty in the Philippines.

He says, 'If I can change someone's life forever on the other side of the world, then I can definitely change my own.'

In March, along with 1800 people, Morgan was at the 2014 Oxfordshire Youth Awards.

52 young people were nominated for the Inspiring Entrepreneur Award.

But there was only one winner - Morgan!

Catalyst Programme...

Tearfund's "Catalyst" Programme, as mentioned in last month's eNews, is open for applications.

The Catalyst Programme helps the local church, in England, to:
- realise its mission and vision for the local community;
- develop, produce and implement a relevant and sustainable social action programme (that could be something like a Trussell Trust foodbank or a Christians Against Poverty Debt Centre, for example. Or, it could be something that is unique to your own locality).
