CVS Updates

Campaign to recruit skilled trustees – Workshops at CVS

Business in the Community (BITC) in Blackpool, supported by CVS and the Volunteer Centre, are running a campaign to promote the recruitment of trustees from the business and public sectors.   Surveys show that around 50% of charities at any one time have at least one vacancy on their board, and even boards that seem to be coping ok may benefit from new skilled members.
Valuable skills are found readily in the business and public sectors. BITC's Place Coordinator in Blackpool, Ian Fogg, will be addressing commercial organisations over the next few weeks to promote and encourage voluntary trusteeship.
In addition, he will be running workshops here at CVS on 30th October and 4th November, bringing together different sectors. We are inviting voluntary groups to send representatives to these workshops to explain your needs and the work you carry out.
If you'd like to be involved please contact:  ian.fogg@bitcconnect.org

It will also include an amazing talk from a recovering drug addict from the Amy Winehouse Foundation.  See poster below for full details.

CYPF Forum awareness event
The Wyre & Fylde Children, Young People & Families Forum will be holding an Awareness Event at Homestart Fylde in St Annes on Tuesday 9th December from 10am till 12. The purpose of the event will be to raise awareness about the work and services of some of the forum groups and attendees will all get the chance to chat to each of the groups and find out more. This is also a great networking opportunity and they are always well received (and attended).
This FREE event is open to all Wyre & Fylde groups and local residents and more detailed information will be issued nearer the time to confirm the groups attending. If you would like to book a place at this event could you please contact Jane Williams on 01253 887437.

Protect yourself from flu, a reminder
As winter beckons, doctors on the Fylde coast are urging local people who are at risk of flu to book their appointments for a flu jab.
For most healthy people, flu is an unpleasant illness that usually lasts a week or so. However, certain people are more at risk from flu and for some it can lead to very serious complications, even if they have been well beforehand. This year, GP practices will not be sending out letters inviting you for a flu vaccination, so it is important that you make an appointment with your GP.

Streetlife shelter NOT closing down!
One or two people have commented that the Streetlife Shelter will be closing down, this is not true. From the 1st November 2014 the Streetlife Nightshelter will run as an independent charity without Council funding. Streetlife has no intention of closing the shelter.  The charity is working very hard to secure funds to be able to continue to provide this valuable service to young people in crisis for years to come.
One of the charities fundraising efforts is to promote a £5 campaign, if 2000 people were to give £5 per month to Streetlife its future would be secure. You can go to
http://www.wearestreetlife.org/support-us
for more information. To help them reach their target of 2000 people giving £5 a month go to
